There I was at Starbucks, showing what a great dog I am, mellow, obedient, handsome and snuggly when my new mom came over and asked how old I was (I think she likes older men). It was fate. Neither of us were getting coffee, me because I’ve cut out the caffeine and she was just walking by, so it had to be fate. It only took a minute before my new dad was being dragged out of his truck to meet me. There was love in the air. Mom did all that boring paperwork as soon as she could and even cleaned her house ‘til it shined just for me. Dad had the fun part, shopping for toys and treats and even a brand new bed. It isn’t quite as nice as Mom and Dad’s but it suits me just fine. They may even share theirs someday. Here it is one week later and I am in my forever home teaching my forever family my schedule and boy, are they quick learners!
Well, more good news, my Lyme test came back negative! Whew! I’ll be really glad when I don’t have to go to the vet for a while.
Well, the good news is that I tested heartworm negative! I won’t have to undergo one or two incredibly painful treatments and confinement. However, my test for Lyme disease was inconclusive, so it’s being sent to a lab for a better analysis. If it is positive, I’ll need to be on antibiotics for a few weeks, and that should take care of it.
I’m Casey, and it’s been a long haul for me. I’ve been in rescue for almost a year now. It’s been a long and complicated medical history for me, but now I’m on the road to recovery! My foster mom is taking me in for my next heartworm treatment soon, and hopefully that will go well. In September, I’m scheduled to go for my neurology follow-up at UC Davis, where I’m pretty sure they will give me good grades. My back sure does feel better now, and I can play and run. I’ll never be able to roughhouse and do lots of jumping, but I’ll pretty much be a regular dog again. Thank goodness!
